Mike Digregorio dropped 26 points as Blackwater pulled off a shocking upset of San Miguel.
What a way for Blackwater to end its losing skid.
The Elite took down three-time defending champion San Miguel Beer Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome, scoring a huge 106-96 decision in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.
Blackwater snapped a four-game slide to improve to 3-5 in the standings. This is the Elite's first win since shocking Brgy. Ginebra five weeks ago.
With the game still hanging in the balance, Mike Digregorio drilled two triples in the final 1:37 to seal the deal for the Elite, handing the mighty Beermen only their second loss of the year.
Digregorio finished with a game-high 26 points, 11 in the fourth, on top of three rebounds and five assists.
JP Erram also had a big game for Blackwater, outplaying MVP June Mar Fajardo to submit a 24-point, 18-rebound performance.
"I think we were extremely blessed by the Lord in today's match against San Miguel. We were able to contain their scorers and we held our own against their defense," head coach Leo Isaac said.
"It's just a good wake-up call from four straight losses. Finally, we were able to get over the hump. And hopefully it's a good start and get back to our winning ways," he added.
Down nine early in the second period, Blackwater's shooting from the outside kept the team afloat through halftime.
And by the third period, Digregorio led the Elite's charge in offense to create some separation, setting up Blackwater's final push in the fourth.
Despite the loss, San Miguel still maintain first place with a 6-2 record, tied with Magnolia and Alaska.
Arwind Santos was the high man for the champs, going for 22 points while Chris Ross added 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Marcio Lassiter and Fajardo scored 13 and 12 points respectively for the Beermen.
