Batangas and Quezon City collect their third straight victories to remain on top of the standing.
Powerhouse teams Batangas and Quezon City kept their lofty spot on top of the standings after dominating their respective foes Saturday for their third straight victories in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup at the Imus City Sports Complex.
The Athletics silenced the home team Imus Bandera with a 74-56 rout to remain spotless while the Capitals cruised past another erstwhile unbeaten team Noavotas Clutch, 87-78, to preserve their unblemished record.
Val Acuna and Lester Alvarez paced Batangas with 16 and 14 points, respectively, as the Athletics dictated the tempo of the match early with torrid shooting and choking defense right in the opening quarter.
The visiting squad scored 19 points in the first quarter while limiting Imus to only nine points – all courtesy of Chestern Ian Melencio.
From there, Batangas, which got nine points from former Jose Rizal University star Teytey Teodoro and Kier Quinto, cruised to another easy win while sending the Bandera to their straight defeat in as many games.
Imus, which got 23 points from Melencio, dropped to a three-way tie with other listless teams Bataan and Caloocan.
Meanwhile, four QC players scored in double figures led by Jay Collado’s double-double as the Capitals got a good offensive distribution from its deep bench.
Collado finished with 16 points and grabed a league-record 19 rebounds to go with four blocks and an assist for the Capitals. Peejay Barua added 14 points, Gian Abrigo flirted with a triple-double with 13 markers, 10 boards and six assists while Joco Tayongtong got 11 points for QC.
JP Calvo’s 28 points went down the drain as well as Yves Sazon and Jamil Gabawan’s 15 and 12 markers, respectively, in a lost cause for the Clutch.
