Muntinlupa climbs to solo third, Caloocan upsets Bataan
Muntinlupa nabbed its third win in four games while Caloocan tasted its first victory at the expense of home team Bataan Tuesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup.
Ronald Roy and Allen Enriquez made crucial baskets with just under 30 seconds left in the ballgame as Caloocan barged in the win column in 76-69 upset of the home team Bataan Defenders at the Bataan People’s Gym late Tuesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup.
Protecting a three-point lead with just under a minute left Roy scored on a jumper to push the Supremos’ lead to 74-69. Hometown hero and ex-pro Gary David committed an error on his pass in Bataan’s possession and Enriquez hammered the last nail in the coffin of the Defenders with a cold-blooded jumper off a James Mangahas assist with 26 ticks left to pull off the win against their host.
Caloocan snapped a three-game slide while handed Bataan its fourth loss in as many games.
Marlon Adolfo paced Caloocan with 17 points and six rebounds, Mar Villahermosa had 14 while Enriquz finished with 13 markers. Roy had seven points, plucked 12 boards and dished out three assist for the Supremos.
James Castro had 14 points, Jay Sierra got 13 while David posted 10 markers for the Defenders.
Meanwhile, Muntinlupa moved up to solo third spot after defeating Bulacan, 75-71, in the curtain-raiser.
Chito Jaime registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to power the Cagers to their third win in four outings to keep pace with league-leading Quezon City and Batangas, which share the lead with identical 3-0 slates.
Dave Moralde and Pari Llagas finished with 13 markers each for Muntinlupa.
Jorey Napoles and James Martinez had 12 points each while Stephen Siruma got 11 markers for the Kuyas.
