Finally getting that elusive 7th win, Magnolia now has an inside track towards a top-2 finish with a 7-3 mark.

Magnolia is back on track.

The Hotshots snapped a two-game slide in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup Friday, taking a 96-81 decision over the Globalport Batang Pier at the Big Dome.

Finally getting that elusive 7th win, Magnolia now has an inside track towards a top-2 finish with a 7-3 mark.

"I just tried to parang... parang ano ako eh, sirang plaka, telling my players that this is a playoff game. We need to have that playoff mentality starting with today's game. I'm very happy kasi naka-adjust sila sa second half, I told them this is a grinding game, we need to dig deep especially dun sa physicality ng laro," head coach Chito Victolero said.

"Yun nga, maganda lang dinipensa namin in the second half. Yun yung storya nung game, yung depensa Everytime we limit our opponents to under 88 points, we have a big chance of winning the game. I think yun yung basehan ngayon," he added.

The Hotshots trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half after the Batang Pier jumped on a quick run right in the opening period.

Fortunately, Magnolia was able to settle down starting in the third period, slowly pounding on Global to take a 19-point lead late before settling for a 15-point victory.

Six players scored in double figures for the Hotshots led by Rome dela Rosa who had a career high of 18 points. Justin Melton and Ian Sangalang had 14 points apiece.

The returning Paul Lee added 13 points for the Hotshots and Mark Barroca was good for 12.

Fresh from a convincing win over TNT two days ago, the Batang Pier failed to sustain their effort against the Hotshots, dropping to 4-5, forcing a three-way tie for 7th place with Blackwater and Phoenix.

Kelly Nabong led the way with 21 points however, star point guard Stanley Pringle was limited to only six points.
