QC makes late game blitz to stun home team Paranaque
Quezon City preserved its pristine record with a come-from-behind win over Paranaque.

Powerhouse Quezon City crushed home team Paranaque Patriots, 64-54, late Friday to move to solo top spot in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup at the Olivares College Gymnasium.

The Capitals outgunned the Patriots in the fourth quarter on their way to claiming their fourth win in as many outings for the solo lead.

Down, 44-50, with early in the fourth, the trio of Peejay Barua, Jay Collado and Gian Abrigo teamed up to power QC’s 20-4 scoring barrage to take a 64-54 lead with 1:54 to go. The visiting team held on to stun Paranaque.

Barua led the Capitals with 16 points while Collado finished with a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Abrigo came a points short of a double-double as he chipped in with nine markers and a conference-high 20 rebounds for QC, which controlled the boards, 57-49.

Gab Dagangon had 12 points and 10 rebounds while Jemal Vizcarra got 12 markers in a lost cause for the Patriots, who dropped their second loss in four outings.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela clawed its way back from a nine-point deficit with five minutes left in the fourth to steal an 81-77 win over the hapless Imus Bandera.

The Classic trailed 64-73 after a Rob Sanz jumper midway in the final period before making a closing 17-4 rally to escape with their third in four games while adding more woes to Bandera.

Adrian Celada expoloded with 23 points while Paolo Hubalde and Mark Andya finished with 15 and 10 markers, respectively, for Valenzuela, which climbed to solo third behind QC and Batangas (3-0).

Imus dropped to 0-4 mark tied with another winless team Bataan.         

Orly Daroya finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Sanz and Chestern Melencio tallied 11 markers each in a lost cause for the Bandera.
