Blackwater makes its final case for All-Filipino playoffs
Finishing with a 5-6 record, Blackwater is one short of the magic number of six that enables teams to move on to the next round outright.

Blackwater might actually not make the playoffs despite taking a must-win game Wednesday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.

The Elite made their final case for the playoffs of the All-Filipino, beating Phoenix, 83-78, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Finishing with a 5-6 record, Blackwater is one short of the magic number of six that enables teams to move on to the next round outright.

Now, the Elite will have to wait for their finally placing as the rest of the elimination round plays out. Currently, the team is in 8th place.

"I don't know the scenarios with regards with the team standings, but we're hoping that the five wins that we are good enough for a spot in the playoffs," head coach Leo Isaac said.

"I would just like to commend all the players who gave their best. I won't mention names but it's a team effort. We're looking forward to playing more games this conference," he added.

In a close game that was marked by 27 lead changes, the Elite had more than enough in the end to hold off the Fuel Masters.

Behind a balanced scoring effort and tremendous defense down the stretch, Blackwater was able to win three of its last four games to make a final playoff push.

Mike Digregorio, Mac Belo, and rookie Raymar Jose all scored 14 points apiece to lead the Elite while JP Erram had another monster outing, going for 12 points, 19 rebounds, and four blocks.

For Phoenix, it was rookie Jason Perkins that carried the offense and finished with 17 points.

The Fuel Masters have lost back-to-back games and are now stuck with a 4-6 record, tied for 9th place.
