To start the second window of the opening round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, the Philippines will be in Melbourne to challenge Australia, the newly-crowned Asian Basketball Champions. (FIBA)

Things are about to get serious for Gilas Pilipinas.

To start the second window of the opening round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, the Philippines will be in Melbourne to challenge Australia, the newly-crowned Asian Basketball Champions.

This will be the first time Gilas takes on an opponent of this caliber since the 2014 World Cup really, and the Boomers should prove to be a tough out for the Philippine national team even though Australia will be without its crop of NBA stars.

At stake for the Gilas-Australia clash of course will be solo lead in Group B as both countries enter with idential 2-0 record after dispatching Japan and Chinese Taipei back in November.
