Marcio saves San Miguel from unconventional collapse
Lassiter drilled a corner triple to tie things up with 48 seconds remaining and after Arwind Santos forced a stop on the other end with 1.8 seconds to go, Marcio connected on an alley-oop and San Miguel stole the victory over the upset-conscious Picanto.

Uncoventional basketball does not work on San Miguel.

Well, it almost worked.

Marcio Lassiter saved the Beermen from an epic collapse against Kia, scoring five straight points in the final 48 seconds to hand the champs a 108-106 win Friday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup at the Big Dome.

Losing a 26-point lead, the Beermen found themselves down by three, 103-106, with 1:02 to go.

Lassiter drilled a corner triple to tie things up with 48 seconds remaining and after Arwind Santos forced a stop on the other end with 1.8 seconds to go, Marcio connected on an alley-oop and San Miguel stole the victory over the upset-conscious Picanto.

"That play is a creation between Marcio and Chris. That's an option they've got, which is yung basketball sense nila eh nangyari," head coach Leo Austria said on that final, game-winning play.

"Nakakita ng opportunity si Marcio and si Chris Ross. It could be a disaster for us and it’s not a good sign going to the playoffs. Fortunately, this win sealed us to be one of [the top] two slots, magkakaroon kami ng advantage. Sabi ko nga sa kanila before, even if it is 30 or one point, a win is a win," he added.

Even without June Mar Fajardo, San Miguel had no problem establishing its dominance over Kia, opening up 20-point lead at the break.

The Beermen led by as many as 26 points late in the third however, Kia responded with a 35-17 bomb in the fourth to make things super interesting.

Down 82-100, the Picanto stormed their way to a 106-103 lead before Lassiter went to work to save the Beermen.

The win pushed the champs to a league-best 8-2 record, on the verge of clinching a top-2 spot in the playoffs.

Arwind Santos led the way with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists while Lassiter added 22 points for San Miguel.

As for Kia, five players finished in double figures led by Gleen Khobuntin with 15. The Picanto ended their Philippine Cup campaign with a 1-10 mark.
