"Kasi gustung-gusto niya hingin yung bola eh, parang sa isip ko 'kayang-kaya ako nito ah' parang nawala yung respeto sakin. Kaya na-challenge ako dun, mabuti naman na-block ko siya," --- Arwind Santos on his final block on Glenn Khobuntin that led to San Miguel's last-second win over Kia.
In the middle of Kia's epic comeback against San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Cup, Glenn Khobutin got two clutch layups to go over Arwind Santos.
The first was to cut the Picanto's deficit to four with 3:24 to go and the second was to give Kia its largest lead of the game, 106-103, with 1:02 left.
Khobuntin's confidence was sky high so it was no surprise when Kia had the chance to break a 106-all tie and go for the win with 10 seconds to go, the ball ended up on his hands to go up one-on-one against Santos once again.
Arwind was having none of it.
The 2013 Most Valuable Player came up with a clutch block for San Miguel with 1.8 seconds to go, setting up Marcio Lassiter's game winner on the other end.
"Na-challenge ako kasi nadalawahan niya ako eh di ba," Santos said.
"Para sa akin pride ko na yun kung masho-shootan pa ako nung huli kaya talagang naka-focus ako nung time na yun na i-stop yun," he added.
Santos finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks as the lead guy for the Beermen with June Mar Fajardo out.
And he admitted that Khobuntin lit a fire in his eyes. That and not wanting to end up losing the game after leading by as many as 26 points.
"Kasi gustung-gusto niya hingin yung bola eh, parang sa isip ko 'kayang-kaya ako nito ah' parang nawala yung respeto sakin," Santos said.
"Kaya na-challenge ako dun, mabuti naman na-block ko siya," he added.
