Gian Abrigo played the hero's role as Quezon City climbed out of a 29-point hole to arrest a two-game slide.
Gian Abrigo drilled the game-winning basket with 16 seconds left to punctuate Quezon City’s amazing comeback from 29 points down to a nail-biting 90-89 win over Caloocan Thursday night at their home turf in JCSGO Seed Dome.
Down by one after Cedrick Labing-isa sank two free throws with 37 seconds left, the Capitals were given a second chance to score after Arbigo cleaned up Jay Collado’s missed jumper. QC called time with 30 seconds left in the match to draw out another play.
With the clock winding down, Joco Tayongtong flicked a perfect pass to the former Adamson University cager before Abrigo found the bottom of the net for the go-ahead basket as the crowd went wild.
James Mangahas tried to answer back for the Supremos, who held a 43-14 lead midway in the second quarter, but missed his jumper as the Capitals arrested a two-game slide with their fifth win in seven games.
Tayongtong finished with 20 points and six assists while Andrew Estrella also scored 20 markers for QC. Jomar Santos posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, Hesed Gabo had 15 while Collado got 11 points and 14 boards for the Capitals.
Caloocan dropped to 1-6 win-loss slate in a sorry loss that saw its huge lead evaporate when QC poured 56 points in the second half.
The Supremos built their 29-point lead with 6:32 left in the second quarter after Terrence Mustre sank a triple.
Mangahas had 20 points, Jopher Custodio posted 18 points and 10 rebounds while Mustre chipped in 10 markers for Caloocan.
Meanwhile, Valenzuela improved to 4-2 slate tied with Muntinlupa after taking down Paranaque, 80-75, in the curtain-raiser.
