Castro wants to regain lost speed after early playoff exit
"Yung speed ko kailangan ko ibalik." --- Jayson Castro.
For the longest time, the Philippine Cup has been TNT's specialty in the PBA.
Not so much this season though.
The KaTropa struggled to make the playoffs in the All-Filipino and when they got there, they got smashed by San Miguel Beer after just one game.
It was ugly, to say the least.
"For me, parang hindi maganda eh," point guard Jayson Castro said when asked to describe his team's Philippine Cup campaign.
"Kasi yung start ng conference na to, parang ang dami naming opportunity na makapasok sa playoffs kaagad and then all of a sudden nag three straight losses kami. Siguro lesson na lang to na wag na namin hintayin na maging ganoon pa," he added.
After this down conference, Castro is hellbent on bouncing back.
The Blur after all, is used to winning. He's not used to making early playoff exits.
And the first agenda for Castro in his conference break is to regain his elite speed that was lost primarily due to a more advanced age and lingering injuries.
"Lagi ko naman gusto makapasok ng semis, pero unfortunately hindi umabot ngayon. Kailangan ko ulit maging 100 percent sa darating na conference, mag-rehab, mag-workout. Yung mga sumasakit kailangan [gumaling]," he said.
"At the same time yung skills ko, yung speed ko, kailangan ko ibalik. Ito yung opportunity na makapag-prepare ako sa sarili ko kasi for the past three years, wala akong ginagawang ganun eh kasi yun nga, may Gilas at nandun ako. This time yung two weeks na break namin, i-spend ko sa sarili ko para ma-improve yung weaknesses ko. Tsaka yung speed ko kailangan ko ibalik," the Blur added.
