Austria will choose June Mar's health over championship
If Fajardo's injury becomes serious enough, San Miguel head coach Leo Austria says that he's not going to risk his prized big man. Even if it means that the Beermen might not end up with a fourth straight All-Filipino title.

In the third quarter of Game 1 featuring San Miguel Beer and Ginebra, June Mar Fajardo's back was compromised after taking a hit from Japeth Aguilar during an rebound play.

While it didn't cause the reigning four-time MVP to exit the game, he obviously felt it moving forward, finishing with only nine points in 30 minutes.

If Fajardo's injury becomes serious enough, San Miguel head coach Leo Austria says that he's not going to risk his prized big man.

Even if it means that the Beermen might not end up with a fourth straight All-Filipino title.

"Of course we cannot sacrifice his health eh. I dont care kung manalo kami or matalo as long as healthy si June Mar," Austria said.

"There’s so many basketball ahead of him. Even if it is a championship, I don’t want to compromise his health," he added.

Fortunately, it appears that Fajardo is doing well in the immediate aftermath of Game 1, which San Miguel did win to take an early lead in the best-of-7 semifinals.

"Di naman siguro, okay lang. Bugbog lang," June Mar said.

Fajardo appears to be more concerned about Ginebra's Greg Slaughter though, who continues to be out for the Gin Kigs with a swollen ankle.

"Sana di grabe ang injury ni Greg. Ayaw natin na may nai-injure. Hopefully makabalik agad siya," he said.
