Former PBA star-turned-Alab Pilipinas guard Dondon Hontiveros has joined many basketball players and fans in getting behind Magnolia Hotshot Marc Pingris after suffering from a torn ACL.
In a Twitter post, Hontiveros, who also suffered the same setback, issued words of encouragement for the player dubbed as the 'Pinoy Sakuragi', believing more than anyone that Pingris can bounce back from the injury.
I tore my ACL when I was 34. And played 5-6 more years in the PBA. He is way stronger than I was. Fans should not be worried, He will be back soon. Every setback is a set-up for a great comeback. #Puso #Gilas2015 #PinoySakuragi https://t.co/4XV5CHbl8s— dondon hontiveros (@dhonts7) March 12, 2018
"I tore my ACL when I was 34. And played 5-6 more years in the PBA. He is way stronger than I was," bared the Cebuano Hotshot.
Pingris, listed at 36 years old, got injured late in Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against NLEX, and he was diagnosed with the tear on his right knee, ruling him out for at 6-8 months.
Meaniwhile, Pingris' wife Danica, who was not present when he got hurt, took to Instagram to share a story about the night his husband got injured.
Thank you for all your messages and prayers for Marc. I feel so overwhelmed and blessed by your love and support for him. I was at a conference in MOA arena when Marc got injured. Marc and I agreed na I will watch on Monday nalang kasi we know that we will be learning a lot from the event/conference. The topic last night was about establishing a good foundation. I was so pumped up while listening to the preaching when I got messages from friends asking if Marc’s ok. Non-stop na yung phone ko. I panicked right away and in my head I was saying “Lord kaka pray ko lang for him bakit ganito?” After declaring that nothing is impossible in His name, bad news agad?! My friend Vel tried to keep me calm as we left MOA Arena cause I was so scared and crying already. Got a phone call from Gov Pardo and he said they’re rushing Marc to the hospital. He passed the phone to Marc and since Marc knew that I’d be worried sick he reassured me right away and said “Be I’m ok, see you sa hospital.” A few minutes after that he sent me a message saying that it’s ok and God has a plan. Nakuha pa niya mag patawa when I got to the hospital. Marc got injured almost the same time last year. He even left for US to get treated. It’s been a roller coaster ride for our family. Gusto ko sumigaw kasi ito nanaman. But God is still good because I’m not alone. Thankful that before this happened he used people to remind me to secure my foundation. It’s not about what is on the outside but what’s inside. Saan ka huhugot ng lakas so when there’s a challenge to face, we won’t give up easily. It’s unfortunate that he got injured again and semis pa. My husband is a fighter and GOD is bigger than our fears. We will get through this! Thank you again for all your messages. Salamat sa coaches, team, teammates, bosses, Tp, small group family, PT nila and friends sa pag papa kalma and for praying. You know who you are. Sorry if were not able to reply to all your messages. We love you all! P.S. Marc is ok now. No final results yet. Pls pray for the speedy recovery of his other teammates too. Thanks to all the other players and wives for sending out their prayers
"I was at a conference in MOA arena when Marc got injured. Marc and I agreed na I will watch on Monday nalang kasi we know that we will be learning a lot from the event/conference," Sotto-Pingris' caption read.
PJ Simon, Pingris' Magnolia teammate, also went to Instagram to share that the "15" on the Hotshots' jerseys were to honor their injured veteran.
Yesterday in their first game without Pingris, Magnolia tied the series against NLEX with a 99-84 win in Game 2.
Paul Lee bounced back from a dismal Game 1 performance with a 27-point outing. The Leethal Weapon also shared via Instagram that he offered the game for Pingris, all while wearing a custom pair of Kobes with Pingris' number 15 etched on the heel area.

Meanwhile, Rain or Shine forward Gabe Norwood took to Twitter to offer prayers for the speedy recovery of his former Gilas Pilipinas teammate.
