With Jio (Jalalon), siguro inako niya na gusto niya talaga ako depensahan kasi kilala niya ako but I'll be ready. I'll be more ready on Wednesday -- NLEX rookie Kiefer Ravena
NLEX rookie sensation Kiefer Ravena was put in check by the sticky defense of longtime national team partner Jio Jalalon of Magnolia Monday in Game 2 of their PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals series.
After a good start that saw Ravena score five points in the opening period, he quickly went cold, scoring only four points the rest of the way in the Road Warriors’ 84-99 loss that evened the series to 1-1.
“I can't be playing like this,” said Ravena. “Especially on a series na nandito na kami sa semis, kung gaano kaimportante ito sa amin.”
Ravena was scoreless in the second and fourth frames in a 3-of-7 field goal shooting as he had a few good looks at the basket, no thanks to Jalalon’s defense.
“We have to give credit also to the defense e. I saw this interview with Jio, the familiarity of him being since college, that's one of our perks playing alongside each other with Gilas,” he said. “The battles we played internationally and the practices we've had together, mayroon at mayroon ka talagang matututunan kung paano yung tendencies ng isang tao.”
Jalalon hounded Ravena, who had seven assists but committed five turnovers, all over the court.
“With Jio, siguro inako niya na gusto niya talaga ako depensahan kasi kilala niya ako but I'll be ready,” said Ravena. “I'll be more ready on Wednesday.”
Game 3 is on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
“We have to step it up.,” he added. “We'll learn from this, rest, forget about this and be ready on Wednesday.”
