Victolero's challenge via text ignites Jalalon's competitive fire
Jio Jalalon only averaged 4.5 points in the first two games of the semifinals. In Game 3, he poured 25 and got a win for Magnolia.
Jio Jalalon wasn't exactly having a great semifinals against NLEX.
He was averaging only 4.5 points per game entering Wednesday's Game 3, and he scored exactly zero points in the series opener.
Despite his offensive struggles though, head coach Chito Victolero knows that his second-year point guard is one of the better ones in the PBA.
And he made sure Jio knew about that.
"Kagabi, ka-text ko yang si Jio," Victolero said.
"Sabi ko na in order to establish himself sa PBA, he needs this series to get his confidence. Happy ako na nag-respond siya sa challenge ko," he added.
Jalalon sure responded to his coach's challenge, scoring a game-high 25 points to hand Magnolia a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Now he hopes to sustain his effort all the way to a Finals appearance for the Hotshots.
"Dun tumaas yung tingin ko sa sarili ko," Jalalon said of Victolero's challenge.
"Pasalamat ako kay coach Chito na binigyan niya ako ng tiwala. Nagagawa ko na rin yung talent ko dito sa semis, sana magtuluy-tuloy pa to," he added.
