Leo Austria celebrated his 60th birthday a day before San Miguel's convincing Game 4 win over Ginebra.
The Beermen sure love giving head coach Leo Austria gifts.
A day he celebrated his 60th birthday, Austria's San Miguel crew got a convincing bounce back win over Ginebra in the Philippine Cup semifinals, taking a 102-81 decision for a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-7.
Now, the three-time defending champions are a win away from yet another Finals appearance, where a shot at an unprecedented fourth straight All-Filipino crown is waiting.
The win sure put Austria in a very bright mood.
"Maybe that's the reason why we won this game ano," Austria said.
"Siguro, magandang regalo sa ting birthday. Sabi nga nila, kapag may birthday, nasayo ang swerte," he added.
Turning serious though, Austria mentioned his team's energy following a bad Game 3 loss as they key for their big Game 4 victory.
And with Game 5 on the horizon, Austria wants the Beermen to treat that one as a must-win too.
More than anyone, Austria knows that a 3-1 lead, even a 3-0 lead for that matter, is never safe.
"Must-win for us, to get to the Finals. But at 3-1, it's still manageable yan para sa opponent. Hindi ko makakalimutan, we're leading 3-1 against Ginebra noong player ako ng Shell, we lost," he said.
"Same thing, from 0-3 nanalo kami ng 4-3 so anything is possible. Hindi kami pwede relax," he added.
