ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Magnolia has made it to four straight PBA semifinals and yet the team has no Finals to show for.
At least not yet.
Despite previous failures that include a blown 3-2 lead to Ginebra and a sweep at the hands of Meralco, the Hotshots are not losing faith.
In fact, they are thankful.
At least they're in the semifinals all the time.
"Actually, hindi naman sawa. Thankful ako lagi nasa semis syempre," head coach Chito Victolero said.
The Purefoods franchise's return to prominence after a down time following its Grand Slam season is largely thanks to Victolero.
Since he took over for the Hotshots, the team has made it to four straight semifinals.
"Bihira naman yung team na nandito. First of all, it's my second year, on my first year very thankful ako kasi lagi kaming nasa semis but yun nga, hindi naman ako magsa-sawa dun," he said.
"We'll just try to push to go to the next level. Yun lang, kung may chance talaga kami, ga-grab namin yun," Victolero added.
After their previous semis defeats, the Hotshots have learned a lot of lessons.
And now up 3-2 against NLEX, Victolero's crew can apply those lessons starting in Game 6 as they hope to finally get over that playoff hump.
"Madami kaming natutunan. We need four wins to go to the Finals. Last season, Philippine Cup, three wins lang kami. 3-2 pa, lamang pa kami. Same scenario against Ginebra," Victolero said.
"But na-beat kami ng Ginebra ng twice. Yun ang pwede kong sabihin sa mga players ko. And I think alam naman nila yan. Kasi for the last three conferences, lagi kami nandito but kinakapos kami. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, it boils down to a grind out game so I think yung mental, very important," he added.
