Harvey Pagsanjan has long been a shining star for upstart Hope Christian
Harvey Pagsanjan and Hope Christian High School finally ran out of gas in their campaign in the first-ever National Basketball Training Center Madness in MOA.
After back-to-back rumbling rallies in the seeding round and then the Top 32, the Manila-based school finally bowed out at the hands of Visayas powerhouse Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu on Tuesday at the MOA Arena.
Having to come from behind two straight days, they seemed tired as the Magis Eagles imposed their will en route to a 70-63 win.
In the end, Pagsanjan only scored 16 points on 28 percent shooting on top of five rebounds and two steals.
Still, the loss does not take away the fact that the six-foot-one guard put on one of the most memorable, if not the most memorable, individual performances in back-to-back nights.
On Sunday, he dropped 27 of his 33 points in the second half to lift his team over Australia’s AusPinoy.
A day later, he then poured in 35 points, 25 in the final frame, in his team’s victory versus St. Benilde International School of Calamba, Laguna.
And while Pagsanjan and his team are no longer in the tournament proper, he will still represent them in the 2018 NBTC All-Star Game on Friday.
There, he gets his third crack at playing alongside the best of the best Filipinos. “Ang sarap po sa feeling na kasama pa rin ako sa top players. Ang sarap po sa pakiramdam na lahat ng paghihirap, nandito na,” he shared.
For all those golden opportunities, he is nothing but grateful. “Ang laking tulong po para sa akin kasi yung coaches ng college, sa UAAP at NCAA lang nagi-scout. Mas madali po para sa akin na makita kung nandito,” he said.
When this edition of the NBTC is over, the 19-year-old will keep representing Hope for one more year.
And for that one more year, Pagsanjan vows to keep making his alma mater proud. “Ako po, naglalaro bilang team player. Kung anong nagagawa ko, nagpapasalamat din po ako sa teammates ko kasi kung ‘di rin naman dahil sa kanila, ‘di mabubuo yung Harvey Pagsanjan,” he said.
