History and tradition on the line for San Miguel
With seven Philippine Cup titles, three coming in the last three seasons, the Beermen would like to make winning the most prestigious PBA championship as an annual tradition.

San Miguel is the winningest team in the PBA.

With 24 total championships, the Beermen have a tradition of winning.

San Miguel also just recently took the title as the winningest All-Filipino champion in history.

With seven Philippine Cup titles, three coming in the last three seasons, the Beermen would like to make winning the most prestigious PBA championship as an annual tradition as well.

"Kanina may nagtatanong kung destiny or dynasty," head coach Leo Austria said ahead of his team's latest crack at history.

"Sabi ko it's tradition. Sana maging tradition namin na kami lagi ang nanalo ng All-Filipino," he added.

Talk 'N Text got to the Perpetual Trophy first but the Beermen finally caught up last season.

Now, San Miguel is looking at becoming the first team in history to win the Philippine Cup in four straight years.

"Of course, narinig natin what is the importance of this conference. Kung papalarin kami, it's the first time na mananalo ang isang koponan sa PBA nang apat na sunud-sunod na All-Filipino," Austria said.

"Sana, ma-sustain namin ang tradition na ito," he added.

The Beermen will start their title defense against Magnolia on Friday for Game 1 of the best-of-7.
