Ian Sangalang scored 14 of his career-high 29 points in the fourth quarter to lead Magnolia's comeback from 20 points down to steal Game 1 from San Miguel in the PBA Finals.
Marc Pingris already told us.
Ian Sangalang is the next star big man for the Purefoods franchise.
After a breakout semis stint, Sangalang announced his presence in the PBA Finals, going toe-to-toe with reigning four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.
And while Ian ended up losing the scoring battle, 29-31, Sangalang got the win for the Hotshots, pouring 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead Magnolia's comeback from 20 points down.
"Yung team namin, di gi-give up yan. Kahit madami yung lamang ng San Miguel, lalaban pa rin kami," Sangalang said.
"Kahit alam naming malakas yung San Miguel, yung puso namin ilalaban namin," he added.
Aside from scoring 29, which is his new PBA career high, Sangalang also grabbed another nine rebounds and was largely in charge of guarding Fajardo on the other end.
"Wala na eh, binibigay na sakin. Gagawin ko na lang yung best ko. Naka-shoot naman ako ng isa sa kanya," Ian said.
Despite finishing with the same record as San Miguel in the elimination round, Magnolia has been installed as the underdog in these Finals.
Which is understandable since the Beermen are the three-time champions.
The Hotshots don't mind it at all though. In fact, it has helped them tremendously.
"Nakatulong yun, unang-una nothing to lose kami," Sangalang said.
"Di kami susuko. Sabi ko nga, kahit lumamang sila, lalaro lang talaga kami kung ano makakaya naming gawin," he added.
