Batangas books first semifinals ticket

Batangas took the first bus ride into the Final Four.
Top seed Batangas completed a best-of-three quarterfinals sweep of Bataan, 95-82, Saturday night to book the first Final Four berth in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
The Athletics poured in 51 points in the middle quarters after trailing, 21-23, at the end of the first 10 minutes to cruise to an easy win and land a spot in the best-of-three semis.
Former Adamson University standout Lester Alvarez paced Batangas with 17 points, dished out six assists and had five rebounds. Val Acuna and Kier Quinto had 14 markers each while Jhaymo Eguilos and Adrian Santos finished with 11 points apiece for the Athletics.
Batangas took the series opener, 88-75, in their home court Tuesday.
Bataan, the no. 8 seed, got 21 points from James Castro while Al Carlos and ex-pro Gary David added 16 and 15 markers, respectively.
Meanwhile, Quezon City forced a rubbermatch in their quarters series after downing host team Valenzuela, 76-68.
Hesed Gabo dropped 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Capitals. Jay Collado registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Gian Abrigo, Alwyn Alday and Joco Tayongtong scored 10 each for QC.
Ford Ruaya got 17 points and nine rebounds while Rocky Acidre got 15 for the Classic, which took the series opener, 96-89.
