Batangas clinched the first championship seat while Muntinlupa extended its semifinals series against Paranaque.

Batangas claimed the first ticket in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup Finals after completing a best-of-three Final Four sweep of Valenzuela in an emphatic 89-64 win in Game 2 Saturday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

Val Acuna led the way for the Athletics’ formal entry into the best-of-five championship, scoring 16 points while Lester Alvarez and Kier Quinto scored 15 and 14 markers, respectively. Moncrief Rogado added 12 points for Batangas, which will await its Finals opponent after the Muntinlupa-Paranaque semis showdown went into a series decider.

The Athletics broke open a close 40-36 lead at halftime with a 49-point second half explosion to finish off the Classic, which Batangas defeated 80-75 in the series opener.

Paolo Hubalde led Valenzuela with 12 points while Mon Mabayo had 11 markers and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Muntinlupa forced a rubber match for the last Finals berth after turning back Paranaque, 66-56, in front of its home crowd.

Dave Moralde got 13 markers and 11 rebounds while Pari Llagas posted 13 points for Muntinlupa, which dropped the series opener, 59-84, last Thursday.
