People don't have to wait long though as the high-flying combo guard is set to lead Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the upcoming 2018 Filoil Flying V premier preseason cup.
Now that he's back, everyone is curious to see how Kobe Paras plays on the floor.
People don't have to wait long though as the high-flying combo guard is set to lead Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the upcoming 2018 Filoil Flying V Premier Preseason Cup.
The national team's opening assignment is already this Saturday against UAAP champion Ateneo de Manila University.
According to coach Jong Uichico, who handled Paras in the 2017 SEA Games where Gilas won gold, Kobe is more than ready to go in 2018.
"We know naman that he's gifted di ba? He can jump, he can shoot, he can put the ball on the floor," he said.
"He's still young pa naman so for sure that his maturity will come in time. But yung sipag niya, yung aggressiveness nandiyan. And that's one part of it already," Uichico added.
And while Kobe is one of the tallest members of the cadet crew at 6'6", don't expect him to man the paint all that much in the Filoil joust.
Winning the preseason tournament is not the main priority, it's adding to the team's experience that can be used in international tournaments.
That means Kobe should play as if he's playing China, or Iran, or South Korea.
"He can play any position but syempre we're looking at him not only for a local tournament eh. We're looking at international tournaments, kung saan siya makaka-fit, which is really the 2 or the 3 spot," Uichico said of Kobe.
"Yes he might be good at the 4 spot but come international time he'll be too small at the 4 spot. We're really trying to look at him at the 2 or the 3 para sa international he'll be of use for the team," he added.
