Javee Mocon and San Beda took care of business up against NU

Two of the top teams in the NCAA are off to strong starts in the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.

San Beda University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran are on the board in the tournament following separate convincing victories.

The Red Lions got the better of reloaded National University, 71-61, behind the power play of Javee Mocon, JB Bahio, and Donald Tankoua.

Mocon scored 12 points in just 21 minutes, Bahio chipped in 10 points in just 10 minutes, and Tankoua powered his way onto nine markers and seven rebounds.

With that, the NCAA champions are now in shared possession of first-place with De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University.

Their age-old rivals, on the other hand, prepared a rude welcome for new University of Sto. Tomas head coach Aldin Ayo with a 95-90 decision.

Bong Quinto was a man among boys and pounded in 22 points on top of nine assists while first-year player Larry Muyang posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Jerick Balanza had 17 markers of his own and the Knights are off to a rousing start in a preseason that has them pegged as a contender once more.

Reggie Boy Basibas paced the Growling Tigers with 16 points while the Bulldogs were led by John Lloyd Clemente’s 13.

UST and NU both stand at 0-1.
