ABL: Mono coach hopes Thai crowd will be like Filipino crowd
Mono coach Douglas Marty wants to see in their Thai crowd the same sort of energy the Filipino crowd has

Thailand is a football nation much more than it is a basketball country.

With Mono Vampire in the Finals of the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League, however, they are hoping that many of those football fans will be translating their passion into basketball for the time being.

That is even truer as the Thais are set to host Games 3 and 4 of the best-of-five championship round – and they have a golden opportunity to win the title at home.

That is exactly why Mono head coach Douglas Marty hopes to see a jam-packed Stadium 29 starting on Saturday – much like how Alab Pilipinas saw a jam-packed Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Games 1 and 2. “We hope (to see our fans there). We’re taking notes from the Filipino crowd and we’re gonna try our best to bring that energy to the Thailand crowd,” he said.

And the always amiable mentor believes that Bangkok will come through. “I think we can do that. I think our homecourt will be loud because it’s already the Finals,” he expressed.

After all, just like the Filipino team, Vampire has not only imports to cheer for, but locals as well. “We depend on those guys and we believe in those guys. Our locals are talented,” Marty said.

He then went on to mention the contributions of Teerawat Chanthachon in scoring, Chanachon Klahan in rebounding, and Darongpan Apiromvilaichai on defense. “We’re really have to go deep into our bench because that’s what you do in a long series,” he said.

Without a doubt, if Mono is to make good on its homecourt advantage, those locals will have to come through again in support of reinforcements Jason Brickman, Sam Deguara, Mike Singletary, and Paul Zamar.

Hopefully for them, their fans will come through for them as well.

The all-important Game 3 in the best-of-five championship round tips off at 4:30 PM (Philippine time). It will then be aired on S+A and S+A HD at 7:00 PM.
