ABL: Coach Jimmy Alapag hops on Renaldo Balkman bandwagon
What's next for Renaldo Balkman?

SANTA ROSA, Laguna -- Call it a character reference, if you will.

After getting a bad reputation following his unfortunate "choking" incident with former teammate Arwind Santos, Renaldo Balkman was metaphorically given by Alab Pilipinas head coach Jimmy Alapag his number as a character reference in Balkman's resumé, wherever team Balkman can submit it to.

The 2018 ABL Defensive Player of the Year help lead Alab Pilipinas to the country's first ABL title since 2013, and it has earned the respect of the player-turned-coach.

With his relentless and devil-may-care approach to the game, Balkman sure has earned the respect of one of the more revered figures in Philippine basketball.

"I'll say this. Whichever team is smart enough -- it can be here, it can be anywhere else around the world. The team that's smart enough to get this guy -- because we all know Justin isnt going anywhere -- whatever team, anywhere in the world, that's smart to get this guy, I'm telling you. You just put yourself in a position to win a championship," Alapag said after winning the ABL title in Sta. Rosa., Laguna.

For Balkman's side, he had already said that he's moved on, and is ready to make amends with the 2013 PBA MVP.

By the time Alab had already won the championship Wednesday evening, Balkman was kind of easing in on the topic, but insists that focal point of the night should be their Finals series win over Mono Vampire.

"I dont know what youre talking about. Past is past with me. We won a championship today, let it be known. Let us celebrate our championship. Next question," the Puerto Rican said jokingly.

As for Balkman's next move, whether it be the PBA or another pro league overseas, the former NBA first-round pick says that he is still unsure of his next move.

"We goin' see in a week or so. Lets see what happens next and we'll go from there. Tonight we gonna celebrate, man. It's not just about me man, it's everybody right now."
