Welcome to Gilas Pilipinas, Stanley Pringle.
BOCAUE, Bulacan --- Rousing Philippine team debut for Stanley Pringle.
The Globalport star was electric for Gilas Pilipinas, leading the national team to a sensational 15-7 win over Brazil to start pool play in the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup Saturday at the Philippine Arena here.
Brazilian defenders were at the mercy of Pringle as the high-scoring guard repeatedly beat his man one-on-one on his way to scoring a game-high four field goals for four points.
Gilas got off to a really strong start, leading 11-2 against Brazil, the no. 6 seed for the World Cup.
Up 12-6, Pringle scored back-to-back layups to put the game on ice with a commanding eight-point lead.
All we wanted was to be competitive and stay with our opponents para may tsansa tayo sa dulo but our players were able to jump the gun on Brazil. I think it gave us a good buffer when everybody got tired dahil talagang mapapagod ka eh," head coach Ronnie Magsanoc said.
"So I think that’s a very good start for the team. Hopefully once again, when Mongolia comes in at around 6, the boys will be ready once again to compete until the end," he added.
After Stanley, RR Pogoy and Troy Rosarion also scored four points each with Pogoy scoring all his points from beyond the arc while Rosario got three points from the line.
Christian Standhardinger added another three points for Gilas Pilipinas.
For Brazil, it was Marcellus Sarmento that led the way with four points.
The 19th-seeded Pinoys will wrap up Day 1 of their Pool C play with a showdown against Mongolia at 6:40 p.m.
PHILIPPINES 15 — Pogoy 4, Pringle 4, Rosario 4, Standhardinger 3.
BRAZIL 7 — Sarmento 4, Soriani 2, Evangelista 1, Silva 0.
