Janine Pontejos scored 27 points and finished in the top-10 in scoring after all the women's pool games, tied with China's Yingyun Li, Spain's Paula Palomares, and France's Johanna Tayeau for the ninth spot.
BOCAUE, Bulacan --- Despite being one of the smallest players in the entire tournament, Janine Pontejos' scoring ability is undeniable.
After Perlas Pilipinas wrapped up its stint in the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup Sunday, the 5'5" shooter finished in the top-5 of the list of leading scorers.
In fact, she was tied with three other players for the third spot with 27 points across four games.
Following a chat with ABS-CBN Sports, Pontejos said she will be thankful where she ultimately ends up in that list.
"God's will na lang kung makakapasok ako dun. Kung anong bibigay ni God magpapasalamat ako," Pontejos said.
At that time, the women's games were only halfway done.
Monday, with pool play wrapping up, Pontejos' performance still remains impressive.
Janine finished in the top-10, tied with China's Yingyun Li, Spain's Paula Palomares, and France's Johanna Tayeau for the ninth spot.
The leading scorer for the women, Ayna Gokova of Turkmenistan, finished with 36 points.
While Perlas is already eliminated, Pontejos will have a chance to score more buckets in the tournament's final day on Tuesday.
Janine will compete in the finals of the three-point shootout, going up against Maksim Dybovskii and Alexandra Stolyar of Russia, and Marin Hrvoje of Croatia.
