JR Taganas was all over the floor as Bulacan's campaign got off to a rousing start
JR Taganas has wasted no time in showing that he’s not just a double-double machine.
The burly big man was three assists shy of a triple-double and towed home team Bulacan past rookie team Rizal, 80-61, on Tuesday at the Baliwag Star Arena.
Taganas collected 10 points, 17 rebounds, and seven assists while James Martinez chipped in 18 markers of his own in the Kuyas’ big-time win to begin its campaign the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Anta Datu Cup.
The home team actually found itself in an eight-point hole after the first quarter only to dominate the Crusaders by a score of 42-21 in the middle periods.
Martinez was unstoppable in that time frame, but it was still Taganas who left his imprint in the game all throughout.
G-Boy Babilonia, Stephen Siruma, Jason Melano, and Dan Wong all also added eight points each for Bulacan.
For 0-1 Rizal, Paul topped the scoring column with 13 points.
Meanwhile, newcomer Makati’s quest also got off on the right foot via a 77-65 victory versus Basilan.
Philip Paniamogan and Cedric Ablaza scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, as the Skyscrapers rose to 1-0.
On the other hand, the Steel dropped its debut game despite the best efforts of Jercules Tangkay who had 16 points to his name.
