FIBA: Gilas' Group B set up for explosive finish
The undefeated Boomers were dominating, Gilas Pilipinas was doing well, and the Japanese were on their way to elimination, allowing Chinese Taipei to pretty much decide its own fate. Yeah, no to all of that. (FIBA)

From the way it looked after two windows, the final stretch of games for Group B in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers were supposed to be lacking in fireworks.

The undefeated Boomers were dominating, Gilas Pilipinas was doing well, and the Japanese were on their way to elimination, allowing Chinese Taipei to pretty much decide its own fate.

Yeah, no to all of that.

Thanks to Japan's incredible stand at home and Gilas' rousing road win, Group B's third window has been set up for a wild finish.

The Akatsuki Five, powered by two new additions, look to recover from a 0-4 start and steal a spot in the second round.

Taipei is looking to recover from a 22-point beating from the Philippines and they will have the charging Japanese at home for a do-or-die game.

Meanwhile, the rematch between Gilas and the Boomers just got interesting.

Both teams enter the massive, 55,000-seater Philippine Arena with identical 4-1 records, making this highly-anticipated bout a clash for first place.

Gilas is looking to avenge its loss in Melbourne while Australia is out to bounce back from a bad loss to Japan, the country's first since moving to the FIBA Asia region.

Both set of games are schedule for Monday, July 2. Who knew Group B was set up for an explosive finish?
