San Juan emphatically took a place among the league-leaders in the 2018 MPBL Anta-Datu Cup
San Juan’s scorching first half was more than enough to claim for it a spot atop the leaderboard in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Anta-Datu Cup.
Aaron Jeruta led a total of five players in double-digits as the upstart Knights trampled all over founding team Bulacan, 94-76, last Saturday at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
CJ Isit and Rian Ayonayon scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, while ex-pros John Wilson and Mac Cardona had 10 markers apiece to help San Juan stay spotless at 2-0.
With everybody on-point, the Knights rampaged to a 61-31 advantage at halftime.
It was cruise control from there for them. Their lead was so big that even as they were outscored by 12 the rest of the way, they still registered a winning margin of 18 points.
Jason Melano topped the scoring column for the Kuyas with 21 points while JR Taganas posted a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double. it wasn’t enough as they dropped to 1-1.
In the day’s other game, Valenzuela defended home court by rallying past visiting Basilan, 96-94.
Former Arellano University standout Rocky Acidre fired eight of his 20 points in the endgame to show the Classic the way to an even 1-1 standing.
For the still winless Steel, Ferdinand Lusdoc fronted the effort with 24 points.
