For June Mar, he really was just doing to right thing. And doing the right thing took an incredible amount of will power especially after he saw his brothers get in trouble.
MANILA, Philippines --- In the midst of the unfortunate Gilas-Boomers brawl at the Philippine Arena, three players from the Philippines chose not to get themselves involved in the scuffle.
June Mar Fajardo, Gabe Norwood, and Baser Amer stood their ground, making the more mature decision in the middle of a very tense moment.
Fans naturally praised the three, particularly Fajardo, the PBA's reigning four-time league MVP.
But for June Mar, he really was just doing to right thing. And doing the right thing took an incredible amount of will power especially after he saw his brothers get in trouble.
"Syempre pag sumali ako dun for sure pagsisihan ko talaga.
Fajardo thought about his mom, who was at the Arena, as he decided to consciously avoid the brawl.
June Mar remembered the lessons his parents thought him about how to keep your cool in similar situations. The lessons came in handy for sure.
Despite his decision to not join the fighting, June Mar is not saying he's a saint or anything.
In the end, he still has his teammates' backs and despite everything, he can understand the way the rest of the Gilas boys reacted in a way.
"Ayokong magmalinis, team kami, kung ano nangyari sana di na natin... alam naman natin na at the end of the day yun pa rin yung team na susuportahan natin sa international games. Pilipino pa rin tayo, kailangan magka-isa tayo," Fajardo said.
