The most dire punishment of them all of course, is the suspension of the entire Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas from FIBA competitions for a time period.
Gilas Pilipinas is facing a number of possible sanctions from FIBA after the unfortunate brawl against Australia last July 2 at the Philippine Arena.
The most dire of them all of course, is the suspension of the entire Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas from FIBA competitions for a time period.
While that's certainly on the table, SBP President Al Panlilio is hoping that it never comes to that.
"Well I hope not. As I said, I hope this is an isolated case, and we suffered the consequence for this particular incident," Panlilio said in a press conference Thursday at the PBA Office in Libis.
"I hope the federation isn't impacted by the incident. We worked very hard as a federation with FIBA all these years since SBP was founded. We had good working relations with FIBA. Sana hindi, sana hindi," he added.
While Panlilio is hopeful that a solid foundation with FIBA ultimately benefits SBP, the federation is still preparing for the worst.
Regardless, Gilas Pilipinas will accept whatever punishment it may be from FIBA.
"If you look at it, you always prepare for the worst as they say," Panlilio said.
"We're hoping that our position can be heard and hopefully the sanctions are not very heavy [but] expect the worst that there will be sanctions," he added.
