Batangas leaned on its championship experiences to power through Makati
Batangas is back in the winner’s circle of the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta-Datu Cup.
Swishing two treys in the last five minutes, Teytey Teodoro shot the Athletics over very game Makati, 72-65, and onto a mighty rebound last Tuesday at home at the Batangas City Coliseum.
With the Skyscrapers closing in at 62-64 with under five minutes remaining, Teodoro dropped a couple of long-range missiles that bookended an 8-0 blast that ultimately boosted the home team onto a 2-1 standing.
The former Jose Rizal University gunner ended with a game-high 19 points and was backstopped by Jhaymo Eguilos who posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Jeckster Apinan had 16 points and 12 rebounds to pace Makati which proved to be far from enough to prevent their first loss after three games.
Meanwhile, Caloocan reached a milestone for its franchise at the expense of Rizal, 92-80.
Mar Villahermosa waxed hot from the field with 29 points to show the Supremos the way to 2-1 – already better than the 1-8 record they had in the previous conference.
For the still winless Crusaders, Marco Balagtas topped the scoring column with 13 points.
