MPBL: Gerald Anderson excited for matchup with fellow actor Xian Lim
"Syempre, artista kami, and itís a different world, iba yung disiplina, dun pa lang, na-eexcite na kami."
Kapamilya actor and Marikina Shoemakers guard Gerald Anderson has yet to make his debut in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Datu Cup, but he's already looking forward to a certain matchup, and that's against fellow Kapamilya star Xian Lim.
Anderson has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and has missed all three of the Shoe Masters' games so far, but hopes to be able to finally make his MPBL debut when Shoe Masters meet the Zamboanga Valientes in Pampanga.
As for a future matchup with Lim and the Mandaluyong El Tigre, Anderson says he's excited to be able to compete against a team the caliber of the El Tigre.
"Malakas yung Mandaluyong, andun din sina Ray Ray Parks. Basta malakas yung kalaban, ang sarap din malakaro yung mga yun, because as a team ang galing eh."
The team's focus however, is who's up next, as they try to get back to a winning record after back-to-back losses.
"Malakas yung Mandaluyong, andun din sina RayRay Parks. Basta malakas yung kalaban, ang sarap din malakaro yung mga yun, because as a team ang galing eh."
Much like Anderson, Lim also dreamed of becoming a basketball player when he was a kid, and admitted that playing ball was one of the reasons he came to Manila.
And while destiny brought the two to different careers, they share the excitement of being able to immerse themselves in an environment of competitive basketball such as the MPBL.
"Yeah, napag-usapan namin sa isang event, nagkita kami, bago pa, hindi pa nagsisimula yung liga. Syempre, artista kami, and it’s a different world, iba yung disiplina, dun pa lang, na-eexcite na kami."
Anderson adds that the advantage right now is on Lim's side, having already logged in some MPBL minutes.
"Ang okay sa kanya, nakapag-laro na. Ako, nagkataon na-injure pero ganun talaga, you just have to be patient."
Surely, it's too early to tell, but how interesting of a twist would it be, if Anderson and Marikina wind up meeting Lim and Mandaluyong in the finals?
"Ang layo pa nun," Anderson said with a laugh. "Pero hey, why not? Pero malayo pa yun, ang focus namin per game muna."
