A scoring record was set in Angeles, Pampanga
History was made when Pampanga hosted Paranaque last Tuesday at the Angeles University Foundation Arena.
Scattering a record-setting 35 points in 37 minutes of action, Michael Juico towed the Lanterns past the Patriots, 82-79, for their second straight win following a loss to open the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta-Datu Cup.
A one-time standout in the PBA D-League, Juico’s scoring spree was the highest output registered by a single player in a single game in the two-year existence of the nationwide league. He made history with efficiency, converting 16 of his 23 shots from the field.
Backstopping him were Juneric Baloria who had 20 points on top of eight rebounds and Marlon Gomez who had an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double.
That three-headed monster was more than enough to make sure the home team defended its turf.
For visiting Paranaque, Harold Arboleda topped the scoring column with 17 points. After back-to-back wins, they have suffered their first setback in the season.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga evened its standing to 2-2 after an 87-80 triumph over Marikina.
Reed Juntilla showed the way for the Valientes with 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Jay-R Ng Sang paced the now 1-3 Shoemasters with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
