MACAU --- Good start and even better finish for the Long Lions.
Guangzhou shut down Blackwater in the fourth quarter, rolling to a convincing 88-69 win Wednesday in the Summer Super 8 tournament at the East Asian Games Dome here.
Up by only one entering the final 10 minutes, 59-58, the Long Lions opened the fourth with 13 straight points.
That was part of a larger 22-1 run to put the game on ice. Guangzhou's defense was merciless and it helped that the Elite missed easy shots all through the fourth quarter.
Blackwater was scoreless in the first five minutes of the final period and didn't score a field goal until the 2:11 mark via a triple from Mike Digregorio.
"Actually ang nangyari, ang dami naming atake na libre na di na-covert," head coach Bong Ramos said.
"Basketball is a game of moments, they [Long Lions] momentum and naka-kuha sila ng three points, yun di na kami naka-score," he added.
Five players scored in double figures for the Long Lions led by captain Ju Mingxin with 21 points. Guo Kai added 16 points while Shirelijian Muxtar and 7'1" center Zheng Zhun were good for 14 points each.
Digregorio led the Elite with 13 points.
