Not even a club team from Lithuania could bring down Ateneo de Manila University from the heights it has reached in the 2018 William Jones Cup.
Incoming first-year player William Navarro introduced himself with a bang as the Blue Eagles blasted Lithuanian club team LSU-Atletas, 98-65, on Friday at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in Taiwan.
Navarro, a transferee from San Beda University, stuffed the stat sheet off the bench and wound up with 20 points, five assists, and four steals.
He was backstopped by Ivorian reinforcement Angelo Kouame who had 19 points and five rebounds.
The young UAAP champions had no problems whatsoever against the Lithuanian team as they claimed command right from tip-off.
Still, they were just up by five after the first quarter until Navarro and Kouame joined forces to lead their team in outscoring their opponents, 51-29, in the middle periods.
Ateneo would not be threatened the rest of the way en route to solo fourth in the standings at 4-2.
It’s a long shot, but the Blue Eagles, now on a three-game win run, still have a chance at the title.
To do so, however, they will have to go through host Chinese Taipei Blue on Saturday.
