UAAP Juniors powerhouse NU schooled the best Brunei has to offer all game long
Even with Carl Tamayo still on the mend, Nazareth School of National University had no problem whatsoever in registering a rousing start in the 2018 Asean School Games.
First-year player Harold Alarcon led a total of seven Bullpups in double-digits as they stamped their class all over Brunei to the tune of a 142-19 obliteration on Sunday at the Gem In mall in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
Alarcon, a recruit from Bacolod, had 26 points in 80 percent shooting while Vince Cuajao, another rookie, and Cyril Gonzales, an incoming sophomore, contributed 22 and 21 markers, respectively.
Just by themselves, those three could have outscored Brunei.
Fresh off their stints in Batang Gilas, Gerry Abadiano finished with 14 points while Terrence Fortea ended with 11 markers.
With their youngsters doing the heavy lifting, NU easily overcame the absence of Tamayo who sustained an injury playing for Batang Gilas in the recently-concluded 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.
Freego-backed Team Philippines tries to build on their strong start up against Singapore on Sunday afternoon.
Aside from Brunei, the Bullpups will be competing against the best young talent Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand have to offer.
