San Juan needed to dig deep against hard-charging home team Caloocan to stay spotless
San Juan was pushed to the limit, but ultimately prevailed to remain unscathed in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Anta-Datu Cup.
The Knights lost an 18-point lead in the final frame before standing strong in the face of a furious fightback from home team Caloocan for an 81-77 decision last Saturday at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Ex-pro Larry Rodriguez posted a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double, but it was former Centro Escolar University star Samboy De Leon who came up big in the endgame with 12 points and all the hustle to keep San Juan from faltering.
Rian Ayonayon and John Wilson also added nine points apiece as the Knights charged to a 4-0 standing.
The home team’s rally was fronted by Mar Villahermosa who had 19 points. Unable to finish it off, however, the Supremos dropped to 2-2.
In other results, Valenzuela made team history, downing Batangas for the very first time, 78-66.
Chris de Chavez scored 22 points to lead a total of four players in double-digits.
Paulo Hubalde and Ryan Arambulo chipped in 11 points each to help the Classic in improving to 2-2.
For the Athletics, Bong Galanza was the lone bright spot with 12 points. Shooting just 32 percent from the field, they fall to a similar standing of 2-2
