MACAU --- Asi Taulava is 45 years old and yet he's still playing pro basketball.
The Rock looks like he can still go until he's like 50 and thanks to his new developing weapon, it would be no surprise if he's still effective until he's 50.
Taulava has been working on his three-point shot as of late and during the Super 8 semifinals against the Guangzhou Long Lions at the East Asian Games Dome here Saturday, Asi unleased his best three-point conversion to date.
In the middle of the third period with the shot clock winding down, the Long Lions trapped Kennethn Ighalo and wre on their way to force a turnover.
But Ighalo managed to find Taulava and Asia launched a turnaround, desperation triple from Jimmy Alapag range.
It was all net.
"Splash!" Taulava said on his booming three.
"That's a new nickname we have right now, everybody calls it the Asi Splash," Taulava added.
As he gets older, Asia says finally developing an outside shot is crucial for him to maintain his level of play.
Better late than never right?
Taulava has never been known to make it rain from deep but coach Yeng Guiao's confidence has helped Asi a lot. Slowly but surely, the former PBA MVP is consistenly draining at least one triple each game.
"It's playing smart. The younger guys are bigger and stronger than me down in the post so why take all that in there and be in a disadvantage when I can take them in the perimeter," Taulava said.
"It's less punishment for my body and I'm enjoying it. I learn as you get older you learn something different and I'm learning something from coach Yeng, he's been giving me a lot of confidence in shooting," he added.
