Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, and Carl Tamayo did the heavy lifting as NU silenced home team Malaysia for the gold medal
Nazareth School of National University has reclaimed for the Philippines the boys’ basketball throne in the Asean School Games.
Gerry Abadiano and Terrence Fortea proved to be too much as the Bullpups took the fight out of host country Malaysia, 87-65, in the Finals of the 2018 edition of the regional meet on Wednesday at the Gem In Mall in Shah Alam.
Abadiano finished with 20 points on 47.1 percent shooting while backcourt partner Fortea ended with 19 markers on 63.6 percent shooting to show Team Philippines the way to its fourth consecutive victory in as many games in the tournament.
Behind a 29-point first quarter, NU would impose its will and would never relinquish both the lead and the momentum for the entire game.
Carl Tamayo, back from a spell on the sidelines due to injury, also contributed 19 points and nine rebounds.
With their key cogs running as smoothly as expected, the Freego-backed Bullpups won the gold medal.
Along their way there, they have outclassed Brunei, Singapore, and Thailand.
