Gerald Anderson is one pesky defender.
Kapamilya celebrity-athlete Gerald Anderson is well settling in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League after he contributed better on his second game as a Marikina Shoemaster, toppling the Pasig Pirates, 71-67, Tuesday evening at the Marist School in Marikina.
Anderson had a stat line of one point, one rebound, one assist, and three steals after 15 playing minutes.
He may have been zero of five from the field but Anderson's hustle on the defensive side most especially in the third frame allowed the Shoemasters to take home a victory and defend their home court.
Thousands of cheering Marikeños present in the Marist gym witnessed Anderson's first ever MPBL career point which he earned after going one of two from the stripe, 7:22 left in the second quarter .
"Yes, at least may marker na ako pero abangan niyo yung next game," he said.
"Ang sarap sarap mag laro sa harap ng home crowd. I hope they enjoyed that at nakapag-bigay kami ng panalo."
He also served as the catalyst of the third quarter storm ran by Marikina as they secured a lead as huge as 23 points, 55-32, with a little more than five minutes left in the third.
From stealing the ball thrice to forcing turnovers through his pesky defense, the 29-year-old combo-guard showed that his specialty might really be on defense.
"Kanina, nakapag create ako ng konting stops. Ang importante panalo at ginawa ng lahat yung best nila para makapag contribute sa team."
With a brand of game that seems like a highly energized teenager's and the willingness to run in turbo mode from coast to coast, Anderson is really out here in the MPBL to ball.
