MPBL: Anderson steals show in Marikina victory vs Pasig

Erwin Sta. Maria, Jay-Ar Ng Sang, and Gerald Anderson got together in Marikina's first winning streak in the season
Erwin Sta. Maria and Jay-Ar Ng Sang did the heavy lifting as Marikina finally got a win run going in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Gerald Anderson also had timely contributions and that total team effort proved to be more than enough for the Shoemasters to endure fighting Pasig, 71-67, at home in the Marist School Gym last Tuesday.
Sta. Maria scored 19 points on top of seven rebounds and three assists while Ng Sang posted a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double in the home team’s back-to-back wins and third overall in six games.
Kapamilya star Anderson also made an impact with three steals and active defense in all of his 15 minutes on the floor.
Bernzon Franco paced the Pirates with 16 points and 14 rebounds. with their rally falling short, though, they remain locked out of the win column after five tries.
In the day’s other game, Jason Melano made good on the layup that won for Bulacan their fourth consecutive victory, this one at the expense of Basilan, 59-57.
Melano wound up with five points, including the game-winner, but it was Jerrick Canada’s game-long brilliance with 17 markers, seven rebounds, and four assists that led the Kuyas in their rise to 5-1.
For the Steel, Dennis Daa had 17 points to top the scoring column. With the loss, they drop to 2-3.
