Justin Brownlee's formal road to possibly being a Gilas Pilipinas player has begun.
1-Pacman Partylist Rep. Mikee Romero has filed a bill sponsoring the naturalization of the 30-year old Ginebra import, which starts a long process of becoming a Filipino citizen.
Also known as House Bill 8106, or "An Act Granting Philippine Citizenship to Mr. Justin Donta Brownlee", Romero cites the newly-crowned Best Import's desire to play for Gilas Pilipinas and making the archipelago as 'his permanent home.'
"He has brought enormous pride and joy to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), as well as to all basketball enthusiasts in the country. Justin Brownlee said he can have a house here just like Norman Black ir other imports who have fallen in love with the Filipinos and the Philippines," the explanatory note said.
This comes just a few days after San Miguel chairman Ramon S. Ang said at the Ginebra victory party last Sunday that the San Miguel Corporation will sponsor any bid for Brownlee's naturalization.
Brownlee meanwhile also expressed his desire to be naturalized.
