Kobe Paras and the newly initiated Philippine 3x3 team will go all over the country to find the best 3x3 talent out there
Kobe Paras, tagged as the face of Philippine 3x3, was up front and center as the country commenced its search for a national team in the young, growing sport.
Paras and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas 3x3 director Mark Solano went to Gapan, Nueva Ecija last Thursday morning to conduct the first tryouts for the newly initiated Philippine 3x3 team.
"I'm pretty sure – sabi ko nga sa mga bossing natin – makakakita tayo ng diamond in the rough diyan. Pretty sure," Solano said.
For Paras, the nationwide tryouts is just what the country needs to be able to realize its potential in the young, growing sport. "I think the country's been struggling with finding the right players at the right time, because as you can see there are a lot of players who can't join specific tournaments because of excuses," Paras said.
"This is great not just for me but for other athletes because me, when I was young, I was given a lot of opportunities in the game of basketball. So this is a great thing because it gives opportunities for a lot of Filipinos," the 20-year-old furthered.
A total of 48 players turned out for the tryout - a fact which did nothing but satisfy team patron Ronald Mascarinas. "Nakakataba ng puso ang suporta ng mga taga-Gapan sa atin. Sana magtuloy-tuloy ito as we scour the country for the top 3x3 talent we have," the Chooks-to-Go president shared.
The SBP, along with backer Chooks-to-Go, will continue to hold tryouts until October before completing a pool that will be headlined by Paras alongside seven other players.
