JAKARTA — If game results are archived, why not include game plans and scouting reports.
In order to save time, Philippine team coach Yeng Guiao is proposing to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas document the national team program for future international campaigns.
“We need to do this for future references, so that whichever group is handling the national team, it won’t be left out in the dark,” Guiao said.
“We want to share this database because this is for Philippine team after all. We will keep our files secret for our respective mother teams in the PBA as this belongs to ours, but not for the national team because these files would help the program in the long run.”
Formed only two weeks ahead of the 18th Asian Games, the Rain or Shine-led team competed with minimum scouting report on its opponents.
“In creating an archive of game plans and scouting reports, it will certainly help the future national squads since they have files to look over,” Guiao said.
Ryan Gregorio, the team’s chief scout who was appointed recently as Special Assistant to SBP President Al Panlilio, will gather data Guiao recommended.
“The main proponent of this is Coach Yeng Guiao. We hail Coach Yeng to high heavens as a person who puts the best interest of the country and put this program as priority. I will [operationalize] it as part of the SAP function in the SBP,” Gregorio said.
The Philippines faces Syria at 6:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. in Manila) hoping to land fifth and improve on the seventh place finish the Chot Reyes-coached Gilas Pilipinas achieved in Incheon 2004.
