FIBA WORLD CUP: Scottie in awe of his own incredible rise
"Para sa akin, marami pang time pero dumating na itong opportunity na ito. Di ko na sasayangin, iga-grab ko na ito. Gagawin ko yung best ko," --- Scottie Thompson on his first Gilas stint.

Earl Scottie Thompson can do no wrong.

The third-year guard out of Peperpetual Help looks like he's going to be a permanent resident of Brgy. Ginebra, especially now that he has three championships and a Finals MVP award for the Gin Kings.

Tim Cone, the GOAT of PBA head coaches, marvels at his still untapped potential.

He's one of the fastest rising stars in the PBA and after Monday, he's the latest star guard to be put in the Gilas Pilipinas program.

In the middle of it all, Scottie still has time to actually enjoy life, watching the latest Star Cinema hit, "The Hows of Us" in a cinema before heading to his first national team practice.

Cue the legions of KathNiel fans instantly becoming a fan of Thompson, adding to his already incredible star power.

But as for his actual stint in the national team, Scottie is just trying to absorb all the knowledge he can get.

Thompson is surrounded by PBA veterans in the Gilas pool. Not just PBA veterans mind you, but PBA veterans with rich international experience.

"Excited tapos ready ako. Alam kong mas marami pa akong matututunan," Thompson said.

While he's ready as he can ever be, Thompson can't help but be in awe of his own rise in basketball relevance.

Scottie has done nothing but win since entering the PBA in the 2015 Draft. His first crack at the national team is just the latest in his list of achievements.

He's going to make it work the first time around.

"Sabi ko nga sa mga ibang teammates ko, masyadong mabilis. Hindi ako nagmamadali para rito kasi early pa naman sa career ko," Thompson said.

"Para sa akin, marami pang time pero dumating na itong opportunity na ito. Di ko na sasayangin, iga-grab ko na ito. Gagawin ko yung best ko," he added.
