TERRIFIC 12: Long Lions stop Jets in battle of Asia League champs

MACAU --- Guangzhou takes the battle of Super 8 winners in the Terrific 12.
The Longs Lions started their quest for another Asia League title Tuesday at the Studio City Event Center here, beating Japan's Chiba Jets, 92-83, for an early Group B lead.
Kyle Fogg scored 37 points and Mo Speights added another 24 as Guangzhou, champions of the 2018 Super 8 back in July, got off to a rousing start in the Terrific 12.
The Long Lions led by as many as 15 points and had to hold their ground in the fourth period as the Jets, winners of the 2017 Super 8, made their final charge.
Michael Parker scored 24 points for Chiba.
In other results from the Terrific 12's opening day, the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins from Japan took down Taipei's Yulon Dinos, 84-72, to start things off in Group A.
The Seoul Samsung Thunders survived the Fubon Braves, 84-82, in Group D after a game-winner from Ben Mbala while Japan's Ryukyu Golden Kings destroyed the iECO Green Warriors from the Philippines, 103-75, in Group C action.
The Terrific 12 will continue Wednesday with Mobis Phoebus, Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, Xinjiang Flying Tigers, and the Shandong Golden Stars all playing their first game vs. separate opponents.
