Playoff hopeful Batangas just got a much-welcome shot in the arm in the form of Letran star Bong Quinto
Not even a week after his collegiate career came to an end, Bong Quinto has come back to play for Batangas as they ramp up their playoff push in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup.
Quinto did not skip a beat and made an immediate impact for the Athletics, backstopping red-hot Jeff Viernes in their statement victory versus powerhouse San Juan, 85-78, last Wednesday at home in the Batangas City Coliseum.
The Colegio de San Juan de Letran standout scored 16 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists while Viernes had 21 markers, five boards, and four dimes of his own in Batangas’ seventh win in 13 games.
Quinto was a big part of the Athletics’ championship in the league’s inaugural staging before focusing on his final year for the Knights in the NCAA.
John Wilson paced the MPBL’s Knights with 16 points. They now stand at 10-3.
Meanwhile, Makati bested Bulacan, 99-94, behind Cedric Ablaza.
Ablaza posted an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double to lift the Skyscrapers to 8-4 while also dropping the Kuyas to 8-5.
